West Gate Freeway Upgrade
The $1.39 billion Monash-Citylink-West Gate M1 upgrade was the largest state-funded road project in Victoria's history. To ensure the complex drainage requirements of this unique project were met, contractors went with VSlimDrain Grated Drainage.
The project was split into four main phases. The 6.2km West Gate Freeway section through the CBD, although relatively short in length, was very complex with a large number of contractors working at the same time resulting in some major scheduling difficulties. The complexity of the project was also amplified with extremely tight working parameters as the existing roadways carried over 160,000 vehicles every day during construction.
This unique project encompassed new bridges, ramps, pillars and pavement all of which now contribute to a more efficient transit experience for the many motorists using this key piece of infrastructure. However, the addition of more concrete to the landscape meant major run-off issues with regard to stormwater and its catchment. With inner Melbourne offering limited assistance in the form of sloping land to channel water, this tram-friendly terrain posed potential problems.
VSlimDrain was the right product for the job.
